2022 across the country is becoming known as the "year of the parent." My wife, Sally and I have been married 37 years, and all six of our children have been educated in PUSD.  Five have graduated from PHS and our last child is in 6th grade.  Every day when I drop my son off at school I say: "Soar with the Eagles, Take the High Road, and Return with Honor; I Love You." Like you, I want my children and grandchildren to grow into smart, responsible and self reliant adults.  I believe education should be focussed on strong academic fundamentals which will provide our children the best opportunity to be successful adults. I have owned a small business in Prescott for over 21 years, served in the community, am active in my faith, and love God and my country.  Every day I am grateful to live in this amazing and beautiful place we call Prescott, "Everyone's HomeTown."

I will vote to honor the Arizona Parents Bill of Rights, along with other laws that protect our children* here in Arizona.  I know there are many varieties of families in our school district, and while I subscribe to traditional family values, I believe parents have the right to teach their own values to their children, without interference from government entities, teacher's unions or outside influences with an agenda that may divide us. Our values may not all be the same, but what is important to each individual family should be honored.  Schools should be educating our children HOW to think and not WHAT to think. I believe in the free exercise of agency, and hope for a moral majority of traditional family values to prevail.

As a taxpayer you have a voice in the direction of the school district. As a business owner, I recognize that your property taxes must be used wisely, with transparency and  accountability.  I also respect merit and results over entitlement. We must be responsible with the funding we receive.  Prescott also needs to attract the best doctors and businesses to this area, which can only happen if we have an excellent education available to their families.  My six children have had many amazing teachers over the years and that must continue. We need to keep and hire the best for our children, with commensurate pay for excellence in core competencies, including creative and innovative electives that will challenge them to compete in a world economy.  This may require some tough fiscal decisions, but we must also live within our means.

Like it or not, school choice is here to stay. Our responsibility as a board should be to promote academic excellence so that PUSD is the school of choice. I wholly endorse the district's Vision and Mission which states: "Prescott Unified School District educates students to be confident, lifelong-learners prepared to achieve their full potential in a complex, interconnected world.

The PUSD mission statement is:

  • Providing extraordinary opportunities through a variety of programs and challenging curriculum.

  • Uniting the PUSD family of students, staff, and community members through positive relationships.

  • Supporting exceptional staff through ongoing individualized professional development.

  • Developing a highly educated, civic-minded, and productive community, one student at a time.

* As a school board member I am tasked with honoring the AZ Parents Bill of Rights (1-602), the Arizona Constitution (Title 15-102 Parental involvement in the school) and ensuring that any form of blame or judgement on the basis of race, ethnicity or sex is not taught (HB 2906 Article 10 Training and Instruction 41-1494). I welcome all parental and community input and pledge to give my all for our children.
